#1: looking east - see the moon?

(visited by David Mower)

15-Nov-2002 -- 15 Nov 2002. I visited this confluence a little over a year ago, but the visit was only an attempt. It was time to get one of those attempts off my list. I parked at right angles to the confluence on US Highway 93 in southern Nevada. The GPS indicated 1.78 kilometers to the confluence. Like my prior visit, it was getting late in the afternoon, but this time I knew I would make it. A power line was near the highway, but after that there were no man-made structures of any kind. The plants were mostly small and sparse, except in the bottoms of dry arroyos where some small trees grew. I saw no mammals, although there were many underground tunnels which often collapsed under my feet. I crossed some sand. There were a few birds and a few insects. I intended to build a rock cairn at the confluence because I had crossed veritable seas of rocks and gravel on the way. Wouldn’t you know it? At the confluence there was not a rock within 50 meters. Oh well, I had the photos to prove that I was there. This was a great day with temperature in the 70s Fahrenheit, clear blue sky and the moon rising in the eastern sky. Success! Wow!
