– Despite this PC have been visited in 08-Mar-2003 by one of the world champion confluence hunter, Mr. Hans Augdoppler, I decide visit it once again to appreciate and report how it look like at the end of the intense raining season (July-September), since the previous visit was carried out at the end of the dry season (January-March). In addition I will take the advantage of this hunt to test my new toy, a GPSMAP 276C (it is true that the only difference between a man a kid it is only the price of their toys).

My son and I depart from Caracas very early in our Land Cruiser, had a very good breakfast on the road and after 5 hours driving we arrive to the CP area, however we could not use the same road to approach CP used by previous visitor, because the gate was padlocked and we were at 2.7km from CP. So we continue going around identifying any road in order to get closer. We stop at another gate and meanwhile we were analyzing the map on the GPS a couple of guys on a pickup truck approached us and ask if we need any help. As always I explain, without too much hope to be understood, to the guy what we were locking for and ask for permission to entry to the property. After mine explanation I asked if he understood what I just said and for my surprise the answer was a forceful yes. The guy is Mr. Noel Lezama owner of that property, Farm Los Frailes and also is an Agronomist Engineer and of course understands about latitude and longitude issues and in addition he becomes very interested in the Confluence Project.

Noel was with Angel his assistance in the farm, suggested to following them so we drove thru inside his property for about 3 km over a grazing land with a very tall pasture produced by the hard and extended rains. We arrived to the property limit barbed fence, and then just walked thru an open savannah for only 240 mts to arrive to CP. The confluence dance was very short due to the new GPS and that CP is located at open sky. The elevation of CP is 215 masl. After we took the appropriate pictures, Noel gave us an excellent tour thru his property. The area of the farm is about 700 hectares, dedicated to cattle, corn and orange harvest. Part of the orange harvested it is used in preparing orange juice 100% natural in the farm, that they commercialize directly in the south part of the country and now it is a full growing business. The farm has also a small golf court for relaxations and family enjoy. As a complementary activity, the farm has a honey production activity, and the honey panels are located on a land where an oil spills occurred 50 years ago, so somehow this area that had been deteriorated by a irresponsible oil exploitation, it is now wisely use.

This region it is well known worldwide by it oil exploitation, that have been carried out for more than 60 years. The CP it is located north of the biggest world wide extra heavy oil accumulation, known as Faja Petrolífera del Orinoco. This bitumen is heavier than water, which means that if it is introduce in a recipient with water, the water will float above the oil and of course oil go to the bottom, just the opposite to traditional oil.

After the excellent time we had with Noel, better impossible, we returned to Caracas and on the way back we were making plans for our nest confluence hunt.

18-Sep-2004- A pesar de que esta confluencia había sido visitada el 08-Mar-2003 por unos de los mayores cazadores de confluencias del mundo, Hans Augdoppler, decidí darle una visita a la misma para apreciar y documentar como luce el área al final de la época de lluvias intensas (Julio-Septiembre), ya que la anterior visita fue realizada al final de la época de sequía (Enero-Marzo). Aprovechamos la ocasión para estrenar mi nuevo juguete un GPSMAP 276C (muy cierto eso de que la diferencia entre el hombre y el niño es solo el precio de sus juguetes).

Mi hijo y yo salimos temprano de Caracas en el Land Cruiser y luego de desayunar muy bien en la carretera llegamos después de 5 horas a los alrededores de la confluencia, sin embargo no nos fue posible usar la misma vía de acercamiento empleada por el primer cazador, ya que el portón estaba cerrado con candado, encontrádonos a unos 2.7 Km. del PC. Continuamos recorriendo la zona hasta que nos paramos en otro portón para averiguar como acceder el área. Mientras revisabamos el mapa en el GPS y analizabamos la situación, se nos acercó una camioneta con dos personas y nos preguntaron si necesitábamos alguna ayuda. Como de costumbre y sin mucha esperanza de que ser entendido, explique el motivo de la visita y solicite el debido permiso. Luego de la explicación pregunte si me habían entendido y para sorpresa mía y de mi hijo, la respuesta fue un contundente si. Resulto ser que quien nos había recibido era el propietario de la Hacienda Los Frailes, el señor Noel Lezama, quien además es Ingeniero Agrónomo y por supuesto conoce bien sobre Latitud y Longitud, mostrándose muy interesado en el Proyecto de Confluencias.

Noel quien estaba acompañado con Ángel su asistente, nos pidió que lo siguiéramos y circulamos dentro de su propiedad unos 3 Km. sobre un el pasto bien elevado producto de las extensas e intensas lluvias. Llegamos a la cerca limítrofe de su propiedad y caminamos luego unos 240 mts por la sabana hasta llegar al PC. La danza de la confluencia fue muy corta gracias al nuevo GPS y a que el PC está ubicado a cielo abierto siendo su elevación sobre el nivel del mar 215 mts. Tomamos las fotos de rigor y Noel nos dió un recorrido por las excelentes instalaciones de la hacienda la cual posee unas 700 hectáreas. Esta es dedicada al cultivo de maíz, naranjas y la cría y engorde de ganado. Vimos las instalaciones donde fabrican el jugo de naranja 100% natural, el cual es comercializado directamente por ellos en el sur del país y se encuentra en pleno crecimiento. La Hacienda posee además una pequeña cancha de golf para el descanso y disfrute de su familia. Como actividades complementarias en la Hacienda, esta la elaboración de miel de abeja, estando ubicados los paneles de las abejas sobre unos terrenos donde ocurrió un derrame de petróleo hace más de 50 años, así que de alguna manera esta zona dañada por una vieja e irresponsable explotación petrolera, es utilizada sabiamente en la actualidad.

Esta región del país es mundialmente conocida por su explotación petrolera, que data de mas de 60 años, estando el PC localizado al norte de la acumulación de petróleo extrapesado mas gigantesca del mundo, conocida como la Faja Petrolífera del Orinoco. Este bitumen es más pesado que el agua y al ponerlos los dos en un mismo recipiente el agua flota encima del petróleo, mientras que este ultimo se va al fondo. Todo lo contrario al petróleo tradicional.

Luego del excelente rato que pasamos en compañía de Noel, procedimos a regresar a Caracas y el camino fue propicio para planificar y conversar sobre la próxima cacería de confluencias.
