And so onward to Cologne. Having arrived the previous night in the dark I couldn't pass up the chance to see something of the city so only found myself parking at an Aldi on the N8 at about lunchtime, about 7km from the centre of Cologne. I could have parked closer as I later discovered, and needn't have spend so long tramping through muddy fields but eventually I found the bridge over the railway line. The view from the bridge is Pic1 and the confluence is just beyond the trees on the right. A track leeds to the field edge and the confluence is a few metres inside the field. At the spot I managed to find a tractor furrow running almost exactly due north on the 7deg line so could get close to the spot without damaging the (unknown to me) vegetation. Pic3 shows the GPS in the furrow and the views North, East, South and West are Pics 4, 5, 6, 7. The furrow can be clearly seen in the view north as can Bayer buildings, and the very close proximity of the railway line can be seen in the view west.
The late start meant that I wouldn't have time to do the planned four confluences on the Sunday before my flight back from Brussles in the evening so I had a leisurely lunch in Maastricht and heading to the last confluence in a busy weekend 3 degrees to the west..
