16-May-2006 -- This will be my first CP visit this year, and it is a repeat visit to the closst point to my house. Why go there again? after all I'm pretty sure that it won't have changed much as the field lies fallow....
Quite simple, it is another International visit. Last year I corresponded with Alfredo Mendez who was going to visit another point I have been to twice already 58N 04W.
I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by Alfredo as he was going to be in the UK again and could I help with train times for getting to 52N 00. Not having done a visit for a few months and itching to get back out in the fresh air for the first visit of the year I suggested we do some points together. We agrred that this seemed like fun and as Alfredo's son (also called Alfredo) was in the UK for a few days during a study break from Sweden we would all go.
After a bit of planning I reckoned we could do three points in one day and this is the first.
I suggested that they get the train from London and meet at Bicester at 9.18am, Bicester being less than 20 minutes drive from this CP.
Yesterday was heavy driving rain all day, fortunately today dawned bright and sunny. After a brief drive we parked up in the entrance to a farm that is now up for sale - it was being worked when I first came here.
I had brought my walking boots but as the CP is only 500 yds from the road and the field is grass I didn't change. Big mistake, the grass was sodden from the previous days rain....
After a brief 5 minute walk to the CP we all announced "we're here", except they were more here than me. My trusty old GPS was shwing 5m accuracy, but Alfredo's new Garmin was showing a WAAS accuracy of only 3m.
The usual photo's were taken, before we headed back to the car and set off for our next target, the Prime Meridian. On the way we passed Stowe School, first built in 1750, then on past Silverstone race track.
